The summer ends on a high note for Swiss paraglider pilot Patrick Von Känel, who once again showed his paragliding class by winning the Dolomitisuperfly. This competition combines trekking and paragliding, very much in the style of the famous Red Bull X Alps, but this time it’s 320km through the Dolomites.
Känel once again put his faith in Lurbel clothing to face this challenge, analysing his victory in his own words he said: "In this type of competition we are exposed to the heat on the ground while running, but also to the cold when we fly our paragliders over the mountain peaks at 4000m. In Lurbel I have found a brand that makes me feel comfortable in both the heat and the cold, their clothing offers maximum performance and stops bad smell after several days of using the same garment.
Having been crowned the champion of this event, he tells us all about his emotional experiences as he prepares for his next challenge in the Trailandfly in France: "The race started the way I wanted it to, being the first, alongside Chrigel Maurer, to fly to the first turnpoint, where we always had to land and sign. Then we made the wrong decision: shortly after the first turnpoint, Chrigel and I were caught in a very strong storm and we couldn't move for two hours. That's why, at the end of the first day, we were at the bottom of the leaderboard.
The second day we tried our luck and were rewarded; we were back on top by the end of the day. Then, 50 km before the finish line, Sepp Inniger joined us. For me it was an unforgettable moment because shortly before the finish line all the Swiss racers were at the top together.
The last day we went up with the idea of flying the last 30 km to the finish line together. So the three of us flew to the finish line, Sepp lost altitude early, so only Chrigel and I could fight for first place. It took me longer than Chrigel to gain height off a cliff face but with the help of my two supporters and the support of Lurbel I took the win at this special event"
